Toad Meadow
About us ~
We're two novice gardeners who retired and moved to Western Washington State from Southern California over
eleven years ago. After settling in, we decided to go through the Master Gardener program. Gordon was the first to
take the plunge and Katie followed the next year. This meant spending a lot of time volunteering and meeting the
public.

Meanwhile, we were gradually learning more about our new home. Yes, it rains a lot here but in actuality New York
City receives more annual precipitation than we do here. It's just that here it's spread out over a longer period and is
usually very light and sporadic. In between the showers we have 'sunbreaks'. As you can imagine, this temperate
climate (US Agricultural Zone 8) is very tempting to the home gardener. We know some people who garden all year
however we don't start until February and usually quit about early November.

Before & After page to see where we started and where we are now.
